In developing the Montessori Method, Dr. Maria Montessori studied how children learn to read. She concluded that children could learn how to write earlier than they could read. The Montessori environment is full of rich language materials that follow the child on the journey from learning sounds with sandpaper letters to writing original compositions with the moveable alphabet to reading aloud to classmates.
